About This Training
We are excited to offer an online, multidisciplinary professional training in the NeuroAffective Relational Model® (NARM®), a unique and powerful approach for professionals who work with Complex Trauma. This program is a psychoeducational training to support you in becoming more trauma-informed in your work.
NARM offers a comprehensive framework for addressing attachment, relational, developmental, cultural, and intergenerational trauma, by identifying the survival patterns that cause life-long psychobiological symptoms and interpersonal difficulties. Supported by a greater understanding of the long-term impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), NARM has become a leading model within the Trauma-Informed Care movement.
At the NARM Training Institute, we are inspired by the global awareness of the impact of developmental trauma and ACEs, and we are proud to offer a model that supports the healing of Complex Trauma. We created an introductory-level professional training in NARM to help meet the needs of helping professionals in becoming more trauma-informed in their work.
The intention of this online professional training is to make learning NARM accessible during a time when trauma-informed care is needed more than ever before. This live online introductory training is open to those working in the mental health field as well as those who serve in other helping professions, such as healthcare, addiction treatment, education, coaching, bodywork, and all other fields working with clients or populations dealing with Complex Trauma.
In this NARM Basics Training, you will learn more about the rapidly evolving field of trauma-informed care, will gain a deeper understanding of the impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) on the development of Complex Trauma, and will learn how NARM, one of the first models specifically designed to address Complex Trauma, can support you in your work.
Please note: If you are a licensed psychotherapist you can choose to start your training at either NARM Basics, or NARM Therapist Training. To find NARM Therapist training options please visit either the Complex Trauma Training Center or NARM Europe.

Training Orientation and Mission
We appreciate that so many helping professionals work from a spirit of social justice and advocacy. At the NARM Training Institute, we are also grounded in a strong commitment to addressing healing complex trauma as a vehicle for both personal and social transformation. The vision and passion for our trauma-informed Institute is to introduce a more humane approach for working with complex trauma, which includes addressing attachment, developmental, relational, cultural and intergenerational trauma. This also includes a strong commitment to promoting accessibility to the NARM model, creating a learning environment that supports diversity and fosters inclusion, and holding the intention to support connection and learning from each other.
We also want to be transparent with the intention for this introductory training so all prospective NARM training participants know what this training will provide and what it will not provide. The NARM Basics Training is a trauma-informed psychoeducational training and will provide an introductory overview of the NeuroAffective Relational Model. This training is not focused on social or political activism and will not provide specific training in addressing the systemic failures that perpetuate complex trauma. While we do acknowledge and discuss the origins of complex trauma emerging out of social systems and the legacy of unresolved cultural and intergenerational trauma, if your focus is in these areas, or you are wanting a trauma-informed training that will provide deeper training in these areas, we would encourage you to explore other trainings.
We recognize that every training participant has different needs around their learning process and goals. We understand that if the NARM Basics Training does not deliver on what you are expecting that this could impact your learning process. So we want you to have a clear understanding of the boundaries of this NARM Basics Training.
While the NARM Basics Training itself will not specifically focus on addressing these important areas of changing systems that maintain systemic oppression and inequalities, we do very much hope that our NARM-Informed Professionals will work in the many systems they are associated with and can use NARM to impact these systems for the better. We support these efforts outside the NARM Basics Training and are excited to be providing people with what we believe is a great model to promote real change.
The NARM Training Institute, LLC reserves the right to approve or deny any application, and/or accept or reject the participation of any person in its sole discretion and in accordance with its policies and the law.
The NARM Basics Training is not a licensure or certification training. It is a professional training program. The aim is to support professionals working with complex trauma to learn NARM principles and to become more trauma-informed in their field. Becoming a NARM-Informed Professional is not a replacement for a clinical license or professional certification. You are solely responsible for working under your professional license, certification, and/or within your scope of practice. If the NARM Training Institute learns of you using NARM outside this agreement, your NARM-Informed Professional designation will be revoked, and you will be removed from the NARM Practitioner Directory.
NARM Case Consultations are provided within the framework of this professional training as learning opportunities for receiving support and guidance for application of NARM in your professional work with Complex Trauma. NARM Case Consultations are not a replacement for professional supervision within your field of practice. If you require personal psychotherapy, counseling, or supervision, it is your responsibility to seek those resources outside the NARM Basics Training.
In participating in NARM Case Consultations, demonstrations, and/or other training exercises, you are agreeing to do so voluntarily and at your own risk. The NARM Training Institute, LLC holds no liability or responsibility for your participation or involvement in any demonstration, exercise, or consultation, and you accept that any result or no result may occur due to your participation or involvement. You are also agreeing to the understanding that consultations and exercises may include questions regarding your personal history, symptoms, and/or other potentially sensitive information, and that you understand you are under no obligation to participate, may refuse to answer any question, and/or may pause or discontinue your participation at any time.
